Meet the Owner

Hi, I am Syronda McCorkle Mills, Owner/Founder of Adaptive Learning Academy. Recently working in both public and charter school settings, I recognized early on the tremendous gaps both settings exhibited in providing a fair opportunity of education for scholars with disabilities. Teaching in the classroom for 5 years and working in various areas of special education for over 29 years, I decided early on that God called me to do this critical work so all scholars with disabilities would be provided what they needed based upon their individualized needs to be successful within the school environment and where others would look upon their capabilities instead of a label. I dreamed of one day providing a space where scholars with disabilities could be prepared to enter a school environment and be included versus excluded. Through this dream, Adaptive Learning Academy was developed with education, social skills and therapeutic services being provided to ensure progress and success for all scholars. After teaching and working in this field for many years I found out that I truly love teaching and preparing individuals with disabilities to be a part of a society that they so deserve to be a part of. My favorite quote is: “If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn” ~Ignacio Estrada. This was the driving purpose behind developing ALA (Adaptive Learning Academy) so every child can be provided with their individualized learning needs within a small setting that provided less distractions in which to learn. I hope you embark on this journey with us and be a part of watching your child grow, learn and make progress toward their goals to be successful in and out of the classroom.

Best Regards,

Syronda McCorkle Mills
